Hello everybody. My name is Vicky and I'm a bride to be planning my wedding day and wanted to see what you think about a question that I have. If you had to choose one... either a wedding photographer or a videographer, which one would you choose for your wedding and why?

I know that a lot of the decision would be based on the quality of their work and price, but for the sake of an example, let's just say that both the wedding photographer and videographer are the best at what they do and the price is exactly the same to hire either one.... now would you rather the wedding photographer or videographer? And please explain why...

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS... BUT WHAT IS A VIDEO WORTH?

My answer may be biased since I'm a wedding photographer myself, but I personally prefer photos... You can't hang a video above your fireplace. Sure, I have seen a lot of good wedding videographers out there, but I suppose it all depends on how you would like to remember your special day.

Ok so I'm a little biased because I'm a wedding videographer, but I would highly recommend you consider having your wedding filmed because when done right, video will capture the memories of the day on so many more levels. I have been producing wedding videos for several years and I've had so many brides (and grooms) tell me after they have watched the video just how happy and relieved they were for choosing to get one! Even in my own experience, sure photographs are great but when I watched our wedding video I was amazed at just how much I either missed or had already forgotten about on the day.

Here's one of my highlights wedding videos.

Hi Vicky, congratulations on your upcoming wedding!  I have a photography background and actually love the HD videotaping portion of my wedding business. Due to ever better technology, My wedding clients have enjoyed their wedding DVDs and their 7x9 photo albums that are created by using still images captured from video.  Perhaps could hire a both to capture your wedding ceremony and just one to capture the reception. I'm including my link to show as a reference. Good luck on your choice!

Ah now this I think is an easy one for me, I would have photos for the day and a videographer for the reception.  Photos look so much better and just say if you fall up the aisle, would you have to RE SHOOT it? Then it would seem alittle false and acted out for me, but it would be great getting everyone on video at the reception when they are at ease and a little tipsy, lol just tell them not to swear and make sure none of your family are caught slagging off the other family, lol xxx

I would always go for still photography - though I am a wedding photographer (UK BAsed!). Why? Outstanding wall art, wedding albums to die for, parent books to say thank you,

Capturing still images from video will not produce the same quality of large prints or canvas wall art etc.

At the end of the day (you know, when it gets dark...) it's a tough call and it does depend on your budget etc.

Hi Vicky Congratulations on your engagement!

As you would expect the responses are fairly evenly split - the photographers saying photography and conversely the videographers saying video. As an owner of a photography business I too am going to champion photography as I think it offers more flexibility of delivery ie. albums, wall art, digital albums we also offer the option to have a compilation of your favourite images set to music on a DVD. I agree with Boogiebaby may be consider a videographer for the evening, there are also companies that offer DIY videography - they provide the equipment for friends, family to film and then it is is then professionally post produced.

Hi Vicky,

Congratulations to you on your engagement. Choosing a wedding photographer or videographer is totally depend on your decision that how you want to capture the special moments and memories of the wedding day and how you would like to remember your marriage day. A wedding photographer or videographer both are perfect in his/her work, but a wedding photographer gives you better capturing of the special moments with awesome and attractive photographs.
