Just a tip to avoid wasted or leftover cake. Instead of serving cake to each guest at their place setting, offer your guests a variety of different cake flavors on a dessert table. You can do this by ordering each tier of your cake in a different flavor. Most bakers don't charge extra for this.
Many times if the cake is served to each guest individually it gets wasted. With this serving method, many caterers ask that you only choose one flavor of cake for less confusion when serving it. Quite often your flavor selection may not fit with your guests' tastes so it is left to get tossed. Or when the cake is served, your guests may already be away from their table not aware that a piece of cake is waiting for them. Again the cake gets served anyway and eventually tossed when no one returns to eat it.
Just some "food for thought" or should I say "cake for thought".

Permalink Reply by Bianca Moran on November 10, 2011 at 10:01am Same here. We have gone on some cake tastings to choose our wedding cake and have noticed the same thing, more flavors = more money, but maybe it depends on the bakery?
