Just when you thought that you have accounted for all of your wedding expenses, comes Wedding Etiquette 101 on tipping your wedding vendors. It may have slipped your mind, but don't worry, we are here to add a little more chaos to your wedding planning. So, which wedding vendors do you tip and how much should these tips be?
While tipping is an optional monetary gesture for a job well done, you may be wondering just how much money wedding vendors are typically tipped and we have put together this guide to give you an idea of which wedding vendors to tip and how much money you should tip them.
Not every wedding has one, but if you have a wedding planner or wedding coordinator then this is for you. First, keep in mind the reason you hired a wedding planner or wedding coordinator... simply put, because there is a lot of responsibility in planning the perfect wedding. A wedding planner is responsible for planning your entire wedding day, right down to the smallest detail. You have a vision for your perfect wedding, and it's up to them to put it all together. A wedding coordinator isn't involved in all the planning, but they are right there with you on your wedding day overseeing your wedding vendors and making sure that everything you have planned for your wedding day goes perfectly. So how much do you tip wedding planners and coordinators?
TIP WEDDING PLANNERS: $100 to $300
A standard tip for a wedding planner is between $100 and $300. Average weddings usually tip their wedding planner $200. If you have a wedding that is more expensive, that has more details than your 'average' wedding, more than 150 guests attending your wedding, or if they have really gone above and beyond, consider maxing out the $300 tip.
TIP WEDDING COORDINATORS: $50 to $150
Wedding coordinators have less responsibility than planners, and for that reason the standard tip for a wedding coordinator is any amount between $100 to $150 with an average tip of $100. This of course depends on how smoothly your day went and your personal experiences with them. The more they are responsible for overseeing or coordinating, the higher their tip... and if a wedding coordinator really stood out with picking up more responsibilities or somehow saving what could have been a wedding day disaster, consider tipping $150 to $200.
Most wedding photographers are owners of their own wedding photography business and they set their prices according to how much they want to get paid. For this reason, it's completely optional whether or not you want to tip your wedding photographer. However, on the other side of this point of view, this could be viewed the same way with any of your wedding vendors, the only difference is that some wedding professionals working your wedding are employees and other wedding vendors are their own bosses. Keep in mind that tipping is a gesture of a job well done and your way of showing appreciation, so no matter who the wedding vendor is, you are the one to decide who you would like to tip. When it comes to tipping wedding photographers or Videographers it may be best not to tip them on your wedding day, but rather after you get your wedding pictures or video. The amount you tip your wedding photographer or videographer depends on your overall satisfaction of their work.
TIP WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS: $50 to $200
A standard tip for a wedding photographer or videographer is between $50 to $200 with an average tip of $100. The amount to tip wedding photographers depends on their work ethic and professionalism during your wedding, your wedding guests feedback that you may get during our wedding and their response to the quality of your wedding photos after your wedding, and of course your own overall satisfaction of their work. This should be determined AFTER they deliver your wedding photos, or wedding video if you hired a videographer.

Comment by Nicola Blackledge on January 30, 2012 at 5:32pm Interesting article - I haven't heard or come across wedding photographers in the UK being tipped may be it isn't a trend that has crossed the pond yet?
