UNION, SOUTH CAROLINA - If you have ever planned a wedding, then you know how much time and money goes into every little detail to perfectly plan your wedding day, but you never plan for the things that can go wrong... such as this fire that took place in a South Carolina Bridal Shop.
It took 3 months to plan Gwendolyn Bishop's wedding. Bishop and her fiance have their wedding planned for this Sunday. Her daughter and all of her sisters will be bridesmaids. She searched the entire state of South Carolina to find the perfect wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses before taking them to Barbara's Bridal in Union for alterations.
Gwendolyn Bishop was supposed to pick up the dresses on Friday morning, but before she could, early Wednesday morning, Barbara's Bridal burned down, destroying all of Bishop's dresses. and claimed hundreds of other brides wedding dresses, many of those weddings are scheduled for this year, some even planned for this weekend.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Barbara's Bridal Shop shortly before 2am Thursday morning. Public Safety Director, Sam White, said by the time fire fighters arrived, the building was fully engulfed and soon after the roof caved in.
Fire investigators, still pushing through the debris yesterday afternoon, said the fire appears to be an accident, but they have not yet released the full details. Officials have confirmed that the bridal shop is a complete loss.
The owner of Barbara's Bridal Shop, Barbara Birch, refused comments to TyingTheKnott.com and only said that right now she is devastated and trying to collect her thoughts. Meanwhile, Gwendolyn Bishop and several brides are panicking, as they anxiously wait for answers.
